    In 1998 Chef Michel Richard entrusted sommelier Mark Slater with the restaurant's wine collection. Since then Mark has been delighting Citronelle's guests by using his knowledge and intuition to suggest just the right accompaniment to each meal. Mark has been focused on wine in the hospitality industry since 1982.


A native of New York, he moved to Washington D.C. in 1976 and has worked at fine hotels including the Hay Adams Hotel, The Madison Hotel, The Watergate Hotel, and the Sheraton Carlton Hotel.


He has gained much of his food and wine expertise through his work with well-known chefs including Jean-Louis Palladin, Eric Ripert, Robert Weidmaier and Michel Richard. In his free time, Mark Slater is also an accomplished harpsichordist.  Mark Slater Won the James Beard Outstanding Wine service Award in 2007.
