Isa Bal started his wine & food career in Akdeniz University in Antalya, Turkey, where he graduated with an BA in Tourism and Hotel Management in 1994. Ever since, Isa has been working in the top restaurants of the world. In 1999 he arrived in London, where he started to work as a sommelier for the “Vineyard”, a one-star Michelin restaurant in a five-star hotel, member of Relais & Châteaux.
He was soon promoted as a Chef Sommelier, managing a wine list of 2000 references. His next step was “Maggiores Restaurant” at Covent Garden, where he was in charge of a wine list of more than 1800 wines. In the present time, Isa works at “The Fat Duck,” a renowned three-star Michelin restaurant in London, where he is in charge of a wine list of some 650 wines.
Isa Bal who is fluent in Turkish, German and of course, English, also speaks Italian, he loves to travel, and has a special interest in history and art. He has been one of the finalists of the Best Sommelier of UK competition in 2004 and 2008. He participated in the Best Sommelier of the World competition in 2008 in Rhodes, and now won the Best Sommelier
of Europe competition in 2008 in Sofia.
