Hervé Pennequin is The unconventional Top Sommelier in excelsis a real passionate of good wine and good food, Hervé spreads the “French way of life” all over the globe. Hervé became Best Young Sommelier of France in 1989, 2nd Best Armagnac Taster of France in 1991, Best Sommelier of in 1994 and finally 2nd Best Sommelier of France in 1994.
He arrived in the United States at the beginning of 1997. From Atlanta to Los Angeles at “L’Orangerie”, Hervé finally came to the “Big Apple” (New York) at the end of 2002 as Wine Director at “Bruno Jamais”. Hervé also consulted for Milos Estiatorio in New York and Athens, Greece where he spent two months before the Olympic Games.
Both restaurants received the Wine Spectator Grand Award in 2004 – first time ever for two restaurants of the same group in different countries. He is active as an International Wine Consultant and consults some of the US top restaurants.
Hervé has been the American Delegate in the Best Sommelier of the World competition 2004, becoming the 3rd finalist. He came second in the Best Sommelier of America competition in 2002. Hervé was Nikolai's Roof Dinning Room General Manager and Wine Director till 2007 and is now working on a new project, creating his own wine consulting company.
