Panasenko - Anton
Best Sommelier of Russia 2003
The Russian Surprise: More wine, less vodka
Anton Panasenko started his wine and gastronomy career in 1996 as a bartender in Moscow, Russia. After several participations in bartender competitions on national and international levels, he discovered his interest for something different : Wine!
In 1998 he became Manager of the “Artistico” (later: “Café des Artistes”) in Moscow, where he began to develop his first “funny” wine lists, as he says. From 2000 and on, he started to work seriously in the wine world. He was employed as a restaurant manager at “Uley” (Moscow) at that time, where he developed an outstanding wine list.
In 2003, he and his partner Vladimir Basov opened their first enotheque. That same year, Anton was awarded the title of Best Sommelier of Russia. Consequently, in 2004 he represented his country at the world championship.
One year later, he and Vladimir opened their second enotheque, “Tinto Fino”. In the meantime he has been travelling a lot in order to improve his wine knowledge. His declared objective : Make people in Russia drink more wine and less vodka!
